  • Within 30 days of the date of receipt of the notice, the owner or person in control must either:
    • 1) remove the graffiti or
    •  2) appeal the notice of violation by submitting a petition for written determination.

To file a petition for a written determination when you have a dispute regarding the graffiti notice of violation:

  • If after 30 business days and upon reinspection, you have not removed the graffiti or filed the petition for written determination of violation, the property shall thereafter be deemed a nuisance property and a referral is sent to the Abatement Program (to be painted/removed by a city contractor).
  • The total cost for the abatement services provided by the City will be invoiced to the property owner and if not paid in a timely manner may be assigned to collections or an assessment in the form of a tax lien against the property.

Stay Proactive and Protect Your Property:
Property owners can take several proactive steps, in compliance with building and zoning codes, to help prevent graffiti on their property.

1.) Installing adequate lighting can deter vandalism by increasing visibility.
2.) Maintaining proper fencing can limit unauthorized access
3.) Security cameras can both discourage graffiti and help identify offenders if incidents occur.

Additionally, community members should promptly report any graffiti activity in progress to 311 to support timely response and enforcement.
